
Maria – Maro Galani
Biography
Maria-Maro Galani is a Choreographer, Performer, and Poet. She completed her postgraduate studies in Creative Writing at the University of Western Macedonia (UWM) in Florina and holds a Doctorate in Performing Arts from NAS & National Academy for Theatre-Film Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria. She works as Special Educational Staff at the Department of Primary Education at the University of Patras. She teaches in the Master’s program “Creative Writing” at UWM and as a visiting lecturer in the Master’s program of the Department of Sound and Visual Arts “Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age” at the Ionian University.
She is the scientific coordinator for two training programs at the Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning Center of the University of Patras: “Creative and Performative Writing” and “Performance: Theory and Practical Application.” She has worked in more than 30 performances as a performer, choreographer, and director in Greece, Italy, Belgium, and Bulgaria. She has collaborated with Greek theater figures such as Yiannis Vogli, Kostas Kazakos, Pano Papaiwannou, Thodoris Ampazis, and Eleni Boza, among others.
Galani has authored scientific texts on dance and theater in education, theater and poetry. She was awarded for her short story “Fili na fylagesai” by the University of Patras Library in 2018. Her theatrical work RASY 74.135 was directed and presented at the International Patras Festival in 2020. Her poetry collection Osa Perissepsan tis Lythis was shortlisted for the 2023 State Poetry Award. She writes for the cultural portal and electronic literary magazine Culture Book.
