Ilias Fragkakis

Biography

He studied political science, cinema, and music. He is a theater and film director, screenwriter, poet, and prose writer.

Directing Experience:

  • Cinema: Short films, documentaries, and music videos.
  • Television: Series, TV movies, documentary series, and music programs.
  • Theater: Ancient drama, classical, and contemporary repertoire (National Theater of Greece, Regional Municipal Theaters, independent theater).

He has participated in theater and film festivals in Greece and abroad and has received awards. He has written approximately 20 scripts for feature and short films, documentaries, TV movies, and series.

He has translated ancient drama, classical and contemporary plays, poetry, and cultural studies. He served as the director of the Regional Municipal Theater of Rhodes and the Municipal Theater of Keratsini. He founded the Theater Company Scholeion tis Nyktos and the theater Choros.

He has published five poetry collections and the novels Marikes and TORA, while also contributing poems and short stories to collective editions. His works have been translated into seven languages.

He has taught acting, directing, screenwriting, visual aesthetics, and theatrical monologue writing in public vocational institutes, theater and film workshops, as well as at the Municipality of Athens, the Municipality of Zografou, and the University of Athens.

He is a scientific collaborator of the National Organization for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP) and a member of the certification examination committee for directing and cinematography diplomas.

He is a member of the International Theatre Institute, the Forum of European Directors, the Greek Directors’ Guild, and the Hellenic Authors’ Society.

As a founding member of the World Association of University Theater, he also served as Greece’s representative to the European Federation of Audiovisual Directors (FERA) from 1999 to 2003.
