Theory and Practice of Television Writing

About this course

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of television storytelling. A key focus is the narrative transformations that occur when the temporal framework of storytelling expands. The course examines issues related to structure, character development, plot, theme, dialogue, and more. Additionally, it explores different narrative genres in television, such as crime, sitcom, and drama.

The course also delves into the studio system of international markets, along with the development and promotion process of a television series. At the same time, students gain familiarity with the local television industry and its specific demands. The course is structured around three main components: theoretical lectures, analysis of television series, and written exercises.

The practical application of theoretical knowledge is further reinforced in the second-semester workshop. Teaching is complemented by seminars, film screenings, and workshops, encouraging students to implement the narrative techniques they have studied.
