Theory and Practice of Screenwriting

About this course

The course aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of screenwriting and, through their theoretical training, help them develop both analytical and creative skills. In addition to traditional forms, the course also examines alternative narrative structures, including linear and non-linear storytelling, theme-based development, multi-protagonist narratives, and episodic storytelling.

Students will become familiar with the perspectives of renowned screenwriters, script editors, and scholars on all essential elements of screenwriting. The theoretical study is complemented by a series of writing exercises throughout the semester. Practical application also takes place in the first-semester workshop course.

The course content is further enriched with seminars, film screenings, and workshops that encourage students to apply the narrative techniques they have learned.
