Screenwriting Workshop – Short Film Script
About this course
The primary objective of this course is the practical application of the knowledge acquired by postgraduate students in the other two courses of the semester. In this workshop, students follow a professional screenwriting development process, going through all the stages of writing (premise, synopsis, outline, step outline, and/or treatment), transforming an initial idea into a script for a five-minute short film and a fifteen-minute short film.
Using students’ scripts as case studies, the course explores key aspects of short-form screenwriting in a practical context. At the same time, students deepen their understanding through interactions with screenwriters, script editors, producers, and directors specializing in short films. During these meetings, students present their scripts and receive professional feedback on elements such as character development, structure, and dialogue.
The workshop is structured around small groups, fostering collaboration and teamwork in writing. Students not only develop their individual writing and creative skills but also enhance their analytical abilities by providing feedback on their peers’ scripts. The completed scripts contribute to the students’ portfolios, which serve as a foundation for their future professional careers.
